HAM-74 PROFILE DEVELOPMENT NOTES

Profile version 5 was selected as it strikes a balance between the aspects which posed constraints while
designing the roadway profile.

1. Too much fill on N side of bridge - several previous options would've required quite a bit more fill
on the north side in order to connect to existing grade. The steepness of the existing grade, coupled with
the required vertical clearance, made it inevitable that some significant amount of fill would occur in this
location, so limiting this as much as possible was a high priority.

2. K factor of sag curve on N side of bridge - As aluded to above, another large constraint JAL encountered
while designing this profile was that the existing roadway profile on the north side of the bridge has a crest
with a steep face on the near side- varying from 10% to 6% in grade from roughly sta 21+00 to roughly sta 26+50.
It took multiple iterations to find profile utilizing curve(s) with round length & VPI, & which wouldn't require
considerable additional length at the N end in order to tie in to existing grade.
