**** Accessing the Project GIS ********** ------------------------------------------------------------------- BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project GIS provided upon this CD may be accessed by directly selecting and opening the ArcMap 9.0 document. This project GIS was created using ESRI's ArcGIS 9.0 and may not display properly if using older versions. Multiple layers and labels have been set for scale dependency and may not be visible at certain resolutions. OPEN PROJECT GIS: Select the located in the root of the folder. Doing so will launch the ArcMap project from within which all spatial and hotlinks data may be accessed. DATA FORMATS AND ACCESS: The project Basemap was provided in Microstation format by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Supplemental spatial data layers were created and included in ESRI's Shapefile format. These files are located within the folder found on the root of this CD. ACCESSING HOTLINKS WITHIN THE ARCMAP 9.0: Use the hotlink tool (lightening bolt) to access documents linked to the GPS Field Data. Once selected, the user will notice small blue points that appear on top of individual GPS Point locations as shown within the Field Data layer. Position the mouse cursor over each blue point and left-click the mouse to launch the Windows Explorer document browser. Linked documents are stored within sub-folders identifying the document's type or relationship to the point feature. MOVING DATA TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION: The spatial data and ArcMap MXD has been generated using 'relative' file paths. This will allow a user to copy paste the contents of the CD to an alternative location and still be able to view the data without re-pathing each linked data layer or related document hotlinks. GENERAL NOTE: Portions of the mapping data provided upon this CD were not intended to be shown at scales exceeding 1:2400 or 1"=200'. Zooming at closer scales may reslult in positional distortion of some data sets.
